We are A. and B., two amateur lobster-people living in Portland, Maine with non-commercial lobster licenses (NC). This is a log of our very amateur adventures in lobstering primarily in Casco Bay during the summer of 2009.
Our hope is that The Haul will serve, on the one hand, as a living album of our trials and tribulations, and other hand, a record and tally of money spent, bait used, locations fished, creatures hauled, and some of the maybe more technical aspects of the trade.
We are interested in by-catch too. Let’s see what we haul up.
Hello,
Cool site!!! I recently got into trapping crawfish in California freshwater lakes and rivers. You might laugh but I’ve seen crawfish bigger than some of those lobsters. I have always used fresh catch of the day trout heads and guts for my bait and left the pots in over night to be checked at first light. Funny thing is they always leave most of the head and just go for the guts… Have you tried baiting with just guts packed into the bait bags? If you try it let me know how it goes.
Best Regards,
Mario
